15 years upper elementary and junior high math. I don't teach just one concept a day, I teach all math concepts everyday. We add, subtract, multiply, and divide with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions starting from day 1 in my 5th grade classroom. My worksheets produce results!! Also, each one has an electronic ANSWER KEY to pass along to parents to help their child.

This stock market project packet is to be used with the book The Lawn Boy by Gary Paulsen. This is always a favorite for my students. Not only are the kids engaged with the Read Aloud, students really enjoy picking a stock of their choice and diversifying $10,000 to create a portfolio. After collecting 5 days worth of data, they evaluate their portfolio to determine if any capital gains were made. This PowerPoint file is to be used with the read aloud book The Lawn Boy by Gary Paulsen. It is a great book that introduces the stock market (I use this PowerPoint file in whole group and print off slides to take for a grade). Some we do together and some we will just give as a pop quiz unannounced.

Get to Know Me Math Bar Graph Activity Day 1
This is a good way to introduce graphing and data collection while getting to know your class and the students within without "wasting a day". Students can start to learn x and y axis, scales/intervals, labels, and also info about their classmates. Teaching style
Never let the brain stop working. Stimulating the brain is most important. Constant review is always spiraled in lessons everyday. I use these worksheets and Power Points daily and frequently pop quiz to hold students accountable. All students are always randomly called on to keep them honest and engaged 3-4 times per class when whole group instruction is used; independent work time and small group instruction to rep out math problems are critical to do each day. Students are expected to work as the expectations are set high; it can be a culture shock to start the year, but students show great growth.
