This is a Lesson in UBD Format that helps students understand why the triangle formula works. Students discover on their own what formulas mean and how they are used to find the area of rectangles and triangles when these figures are not drawn to scale. Includes a hands-on activity as well as keys. Video animation of the hand-on discovery activity can also be downloaded from the Betta Math Store. In this lesson, students will be discovering the formula for the sum of the interior angles in any given polygon. They will be investigating some shapes ranging from quadrilaterals to octagons. Students will first be given a random triangle. They will be asked to highlight and label each angle. This audio visual book is a fictional story about two brothers, Area and Perimeter that incorporates situations where students have to use their knowledge of these two concepts to help Perimeter figure out his purpose in life.
