Students will participate in the Olympics in your classroom. This is an engaging six event review of math (mean, median, mode, range, factors, multiples, basic geometry, and order of operations). Fun and engaging activities. Students start off doing a jigsaw activity with a variety of articles on the Titanic. Then using a smart board program students solve Titanic Math Mysteries. These items are all included: directions, six articles on the Titanic, smart board program with math mysteries and answers, and three graphic organizers.

Students will work in groups to solve ten word problems about the Titanic. You can make this into a race to see which group solves the problems and builds their puzzle first. They will receive one problem at a time. Each time they finish a problem they must hand it to the teacher. If the problem is correct they will receive a new problem and a puzzle piece. Laminate the 15 Olympic Event Cards. These are all math word problems (elapsed time, order of operations and measurement). Place two to three cards on six different tables. Divide your students into six groups. Students will rotate through six 2014 Sochi Olympic Math Challenge Stations in cooperative groups. This is a fun and engaging lesson for students to review order of operations. Place 24 chairs around the room in a circle. Place one card on each chair in numerical order (card #1 will have card#2 to the left of it and card #24 to the right of it). Each student sits at a chair and begins with their problem. Fun holiday activity. Can be adapted to use anytime of the year. Students find "Easter Eggs" hidden throughout the classroom. Each egg has a problem they must solve. Once all sixteen eggs are found and problems are solved the students are rewarded with a prize.

Directions: This is a fun and engaging activity. Place posters throughout room. Students walk around the room and look at the posters for the information they need to solve their problems. Students solve problems with discounts, sales tax, elapsed time, and basic adding and subtracting.
