This 20 question assignment has students simplify expressions. Problems 1-10 has them combine like terms, and problems 21-40 has them combine like terms and use the distributive property as well.

This 25 question assignment has students write an expression, equation, or inequality based on a written description. For example, a problem may state "Four times the sum of three and x is -15." The student would then have to write "4(3 + X) = -15."
This is a great way to start the year in an Algebra or Geometry class. It is a short review of arithmetic concepts, covering adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers, fractions, and decimals.
