This is a two day exploration of the connections between sine waves and music. It ties in various iPad apps to help students see how all music is composed of sine waves. I have also created a smore flyer to go along with the lesson: https://www.smore.com/gy9h4
Essential Question(s): Can we use what we learn in math class about trigonometry (trig) outside of the classroom? How can we do this? Learning Objectives: The student will be able to identify trig functions and recognize how they can be used in the real world. Materials Needed: • Computer (or laptop) • Trig Jeopardy Game • Trig facts sheets at front for kids to use as a reference • Trig and Music article and questions • Trig Memory Cards • Physics Problem • Scratch Paper • Calculator
This is a fun activity to do with a PreCal or Trig class to work on modeling sin and cosine functions with real-world data. I usually do it over two days, one to gather data and one to make in-class presentations of their graphs.
