Students will use online graphing software, Desmos Graphing Calculator, to discover what the discriminant tells us about a given quadratic equation. This activity allows students to conclude that the discriminant will provide information about how many x-intercepts (solutions) the quadratic equation has by working through and graphing various quadratic functions. This is a great way for students to come up with why the discriminant is so useful without simply telling them the rule. Common core

Join Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner as they use right triangle trigonometry to battle Captain Norrington's ships and rescue Elizabeth! Students will be required to work through various right triangle trig problems. All of the problems are themed around a ship, submarine, and Pirates of the Caribbean story lines. To survive a zombie apocalypse students must collect supplies from their supply list. Each supply requires students to solve a system of equations or complete a systems application problem. When students complete supply stations they return to the teacher to receive a sign off for correct answers.
