There are many ways to use these images. In my third grade class, I ask students to make a t-chart in their Math Journals. On one side, they write “Notice” and on the other, they write “Wonder”. Students spend five minutes observing the displayed image. They record their observations under the “Notice” column of their journals. Any questions they have are recorded on the “Wonder” side.
After about five minutes, we discuss students’ observations, as I record them on the slide for the class
You can distribute this letter before beginning your unit on money.
Each year, I ask parents to donate small items to go in our class store. Students are given “wallets” (some years I have requested change purses from a local bank – other years, we have simply used small, sealable envelopes that the students decorate). Students earn coins for positive behaviors and excellent work. Each Wednesday, students come to my “bank” and can exchange coins for larger coins, or paper money. On Fridays,
