There are many ways to use these images. In my third grade class, I ask students to make a t-chart in their Math Journals. On one side, they write “Notice” and on the other, they write “Wonder”. Students spend five minutes observing the displayed image. They record their observations under the “Notice” column of their journals. Any questions they have are recorded on the “Wonder” side.
After about five minutes, we discuss students’ observations, as I record them on the slide for the class
This editable letter is given to parents after mid-year DIBELS results have been collected. The letter helps parents understand the DIBELS subtests (NWF, ORF) and lets them know how their child did on the midyear Benchmark test.
Early in the year, when introducing Reading Workshop, students are taught how to find "good fit" books using the acronym, IPICK (I choose my book, Purpose, Interest, Comprehend, Know most of the words). This letter explains the importance of students finding "good fit" books and gives parents easy-to-follow instructions on how to guide their children in finding good fit books. This editable letter is addressed to "First Grade Families", but can be changed to fit any grade. Enjoy!

Toward the end of the school year, we start "Student Secret Readers". Secret Readers gives builds students' reading confidence. Students are asked to pick a favorite "just right" book to share with their peers. This letter explains "Secret Readers" to parents and asks them to practice reading the chosen book with their child prior to the child's assigned date. The second page is editable.
I ask parents to complete this at "Sneak a Peak", when I students and their families for the first time. It is very helpful to have detailed student information available to me on the first day of school, particularly the information pertaining to transportation and food allergies. Once they have all been returned, I place them in a "Student Information and Parent Contact" binder.
