A Visual Journal Marking Rubric for a sketchbook or continuous full course project. Some of the categories are similar, as I designed this to be for an experimental sketchbook, pushing students to explore and experiment rather than stick with one or two styles they're good with.

A short reflection assignment to be given to students after doing self-assessment personality tests like the Myers-Briggs, color categories, and other similar tests. 2 handouts on one page. Formative in nature, and thus can be marked or unmarked as the teacher sees fit.

This project was designed to have my Foods students trace the origin of their food from start to finish. There are a few pre-work questions that are specific to Squamish, BC. Just change that name to your own location. The marking rubric is included. You may allow students to choose beyond the listed food and drink items if you so desire.

A short research project designed to have students research local election candidates for mayor and town council. Could be expanded upon to talk about provincial/state or federal elections, but would need to be fleshed out a bit more.

A Nutrition Research Project that is designed to cover the curriculum of a Foods, Home Ec. or lower level Science Biology. Rubric is included with the project. Has a list of Macro and Micro nutrients that can be covered, but has room for extension and addition.

This is a set of questions about privilege to be used following a class discussion about power and privilege as a whole. I start by doing a power and privilege checklist on the board: Male/Female, Rich/Poor, Able/Disabled, White/Color, etc. And we assign power or privilege to each "this or that" choice. This is an active discussion that requires class consensus. Once the class has solidified every category, they give themselves a power and privilege rating based on where power has been assigned

A multi-grade level assignment in several parts. Can be used as an entire Unit or in individual components. I used this by doing notes and then class-sourcing examples of the terms at the front of the booklet, followed by a one by one take on each poem type one or two at a time. My format was: Introduce the rules or structure of the poem type, show an example, do a close reading of the example as a class, have the students write 2-3 of each poem type covered, and then get into small groups to sh

This is a mask making project based around a central theme. It is largely student driven, and is partially designed to model working in an art department in a new media company, in which the teacher acts as the art lead for the project.

An anonymous feedback form for Student Led Lessons. I primarily use these following a Student Led Lesson in PE, but this could be used for any subject really. Make sure to remind students to keep it anonymous by NOT putting their name on the form.

Designed as a fun "get to know you" assignment that also gives some good feedback on writing ability of students. Please change the "Who Am I" section to be focused on your own life and what you want your students to know!

To be used with "The Sniper" by Liam O'Flaherty. Contains a short number of questions and a plot diagram activity. You need to have taught plot diagrams prior to using this, but otherwise it requires nothing more than knowing the story.

A research project designed to teach the basics of the political spectrum and many of the key words found in politics, as well as having students research the parties in your nation so they are more informed!

Designed to go with the Masks project. Helps students get some inspiration before they begin the project, and also acts as a bit of history for some key cultural masks.

A project centered around life skills, business, accounting, and life planning. This was a project originally designed for Planning 10 in the BC curriculum, but can be easily applied to several other subject areas such as English or humanities.

A fun way to start the year by building a fake community that mirrors your classroom! Helps students buy into concepts like classroom codes of conduct and creates an externalizing identity to help the classroom run more smoothly and provide coping mechanisms for kids to view problems differently.

A Great Depression activity worksheet designed for History 12 (World History) including: -A song lyric analysis of Bing Crosby's "Brother Can You Spare a Dime?" with questions. -FDR and New Deal questions. -A small Great Depression critical thinking challenge. Uses Clock Buddies pairing system.

This is the checklist activity that is used before my "Privilege and You" questions. I always ask students to keep this private, and not to put their name on it. To explain each question a little more, I use myself as the guinea pig to complete the checklist on the board together as a class. This often takes a while because the students are very interested in it and in your personal life. This is an open synthesis essay assignment, marked according to the 6 point scale. While I have it adapted to allow for any works covered in the class, you may want to narrow the focus to a few selected works. Great for an assignment that requires a week or so of working time after you introduce it. I often scaffold this with a mini-lesson on rough drafts, and a final good copy.

A handout to go alongside mock interviews in a life skills class. Originally designed for Planning 10 in BC, after completing resumes and cover letters, but can apply to any course with a focus on English or interview skills. Takes a lot of class time as it is designed for the teacher to end this process with mock one on one interviews. Will work even better if there are classroom supports to have two interviewers. Feel free to modify however necessary!
