I've been teaching for over twenty-eight years. During that time, I have taught first through fourth grade and one year as a reading resource teacher for K-3. I am also ESOL and gifted certified.
This is a set of graphic organizers and lined paper for a camping trip story. I used this along with the story Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night. I wanted something that showed students what I meant when I told them to add more detail. This 4-square graphic organizer has questions in each box to help students think about what kinds of details they need to include in their story.
I also created a story elements graphic organizer to go along with the story.
I love using the four square method but, as my students began writing more, there wasn't enough room for them to write in the boxes. Not to mention how hard it was for them to write in straight, neat lines. Therefore, I created a set of graphic organizers that allow for growth (and neatness).
These are three quick and easy foldables that can be used in any subject. The examples I included are for math. I created these half way through the school year for my students to use with their math journals. They love them and I often see my students looking through their journals to "admire" their work! What a great way to encourage students to review skills.
This would be a great addition to watching the movie Twas the Night, reading the book, or seeing a play based on the story. My students recently went to see the play and I created this worksheet for them to fill out when we returned. My students then used this information to help them write a story about the play.
This is a very sweet story about an old buffalo who seems to have lost interest in keeping up with the herd until he meets a calf who needs someone to look after him. This would be great to use along with in science for Habitats or Social Studies when learning about Native Americans. For Reading, I created worksheets that cover: -Asking and answering questions- RL2.1 -Cause/ Effect -How the character responds to major events- RL2.3 -Present/ Past tense verbs - Adjectives that Compare (-er, -est)
