Sub Behavior Reflection

As a middle school teacher, I used to dread taking days off. After continuously getting reports of bad/disrespectful behavior from substitutes, I knew I had to do something. I came up with a letter writing assignment. Students reflect on the previous day(s) by writing letters to the substitute, their parents/guardians, and my building principal. Google Classroom Turtle Mystery Picture - Adding Decimals

My students love the mystery pictures! Many of my students are not patient enough to actually color mystery pictures, so I made it more interactive. Experience

I have been teaching in Ohio for 8 years. My license is 4th-9th grade Math and ELA (I've taught a little of both over the years!). I also have a K-12 Reading Endorsement and a 4-6 Generalist. I currently teach enriched classes which consist of gifted and/or high achieving students.

Teaching style

In my classroom, I focus on leading students through independent/group learning. Since I teach middle level, I focus on guided independence to help my kids transition from elementary to high school. I like students to work together using project-based learning. I do more "floating" than lecturing. My classes have a wide variety of ability levels, so I feel I can reach more students by purposeful wandering.

Awards & shining teacher moments

- Passed all parts of RESA (on my first try!! :)) - 30 hours of Gifted Instruction training - ELA Teacher of the Year Award for my school (2017-18)

My own education history

I went to Mount Vernon Nazarene University for my undergraduate

Additional biographical information

In addition to teaching, I have coached girls volleyball and basketball. Coaching is such an amazing experience and definitely has made me a better teacher. I also tutor students 3-4 times a week. I focus on reading, writing, and math.
