Middle School Love

I created a card to help my students track their progress of the 3 iready diagnostic assessments. Their diagnostic score was written on a card and then put it on the wall. On the wall I had the scores students should be meeting for math and ELA and the score card was on a wall background according to their level. See the downloadable preview for more visuals. I created several versions of a plot diagram that I find helpful to use with my middle school students. I have also attached an editable version so you can make changes as needed. If you have trouble editing it, let me know what you would like me to do and I will do my best to make edits as requested.

Student Directions: Research one of the important people from the ancient Hebrews and write a research paper about that person. Make sure you DO NOT copy from the sources and make sure to use your own words to write your report. You will also create a detailed drawing of the person you select. This product is based on the play "Sorry Wrong Number" by Lucile Fletcher. I got the text from the HMH Collections Textbook, but the play can be found in several places online. I made this last year when I realized my students needed an official looking document to realize they had detention. It also serves as a communication tool for parents and gives them awareness of what is going on in the classroom. It is hard to keep up with 150+ students (I work in a middle school) so this has saved a lot of time. This is a reading log for middle school students. I often struggle with so much paperwork in middle school so I reduced the weekly reading log to a monthly one so that it is easy to put in the gradebook. Because I uploaded a PDF it will be hard to edit that version so the third page contains a link to the google doc file so you can make a copy of it and edit as needed. This is an original lesson that I created from the article "Saving the Lost" By Reynaldo Vasquez. The questions stems were from SBAC so that students would be prepared to answer questions similar to that style. I found the article in the 7th grade Collections textbook reader by HMH. The lessons are heavily focused on the standard that shows up the most on the SBAC: Citing Textual Evidence. This is a one page document I created to make a conference with my students and help them see their scores from the SBAC, AR & Lexile reading level, quarterly grades, GPA and iready. The assignment asks students to compare George & Lennie from the Steinbeck novel "Of Mice & Men". The assignment focus is from chapter 1, but it can be used at any point of the novel. Students should read chapter 1 and write down the comparison of the two main characters. There is a T-chart to compare the characters and then a paragraph requirement afterwards with transitional signal phrases for comparing and contrasting the characters. Answer keys are included.

Vocabulary from "Where The Red Fern Grows" in a PowerPoint for students to fill out. Last slide also contains a link to make a copy of my Google Slide Version (The original version). Write the definition of the vocabulary words and add a picture that represents the word. Also, make your own sentence and make sure to use and highlight the vocabulary word in your sentence.
