This is a project is designed for 8th graders to show that they can apply the Pythagorean Theorem to real world situations. Student may work alone or with partners. I usually allow about three days of in-class work time, with technology, and finish the project with students sharing their word problems with the class. I've even used some word problems with future classes. This project assesses Common Core standard 8.G.7.
You will receive one page describing the project, and the second page is a
This is a hands-on activity, which contains three double-sided worksheets to be completed with a box of Mike and Ike's. The worksheets will give students practice with ratios, fractions, percents, and differences. Each worksheet can be easily modified to add more or less of each type of comparison statements.
First worksheet (pages 1-2) - Green box
Second worksheet (pages3-4) - Red Box
Third worksheet (pages 5-6) - Blue box
This worksheet contains quadratic expressions in factored form. Students can practice using the distributive property and FOIL method to write equivalent expression in expanded form. This worksheet contains positive and negative numbers.
This is a word document containing graphs and tables that students use to find slope and y-intercepts. They also practice writing equations in slope intercept form. The graphs are blank, and allow you to use and scale and line you'd like.
This is a review activity for the book Accentuate the Negative. The students can compete as individuals, pairs, or in groups. They complete one round at a time, and award themselves points as you lead them through the answers at the end of each round. Topics covered are number sentences using integers; using chips model integers; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers; and order of operations.
I typically print and handout all rounds to the students, and have them fold their pa
This is a word document containing notes about slope intercept form Investigation 2. It includes a table of data, as well as a graph of the same data. The notes are meant to be an outline that is completed by the students. In the past, I have had the students draw arrows from the vocabulary words to the corresponding item on the graph and table. There is plenty of room for examples and additional notes.
This worksheet contains quadratic expressions in factored form. Students can practice using the distributive property and FOIL method to write equivalent expression in expanded form. This worksheet contains all positive numbers.
Included in this package are five Excel Spreadsheets, one for each of the domains. Each Excel file contains multiple sheets, one for each standard in that domain. These sheets can be used for progress monitoring, recording assessment of standards (through quizzes, tests, observations), etc.
Spreadsheets are editable to personalize them for your students, and can be used digitally or printed for pencil/paper recording. Each sheet allows for up to five records for each standard, and there is ro
This is a word document containing the vocabulary words over integers and rational numbers. It includes a picture of a number line that students can use for basic computation. There is plenty of room for students to add additional notes of their own.
This is a word document containing the vocabulary terms related to quadratic expressions. It includes an example of a quadratic expression written in factored and expanded form. It explains the Distributive Property, and details the FOIL method of distribution.
This is a word document containing the vocabulary words for Investigation 1. It includes a picture of a parabola, which could be used for labeling various parts of the graph for later investigations. For instance, x-intercepts and y-intercepts.
This is a word document containing the vocabulary words for Investigation 2. It includes an example of a quadratic equation written in factored and expanded form. It explains the Distributive Property, and details the FOIL method of distribution.
This is a word document containing the algorithms for multiplying and dividing integers. There are items on the notes that need to be completed by the students, or they could be completed before being printed. There is also plenty of room for students to add additional notes of their own.
This is a word document containing the algorithms taught in Investigation 3. There are items on the notes that need to be completed by the students, or they could be completed before being printed. There is also plenty of room for students to add additional notes of their own.
This is a word document containing the vocabulary words for Investigation 2. It includes algorithms for adding and subtracting integers. There is plenty of room for students to add additional notes of their own.
This is a word document containing the vocabulary words for Investigation 1. It includes a picture of a number line that students can use for basic computation. There is plenty of room for students to add additional notes of their own.

This is a worksheet designed to save kids time!! I have found that conducting the experiment takes long enough, so I've helped the kids out by providing their table and graph paper all in one. This way the kids don't have to take time copying the table from the book, and they don't have as many papers to handle throughout the problem.
