Experience

My teaching career started in 1997. I was hired as a bilingual first- grade teacher since I have a BCLAD credential. I taught first grade for six years. I transferred to second grade and taught for four years. The instruction was in English since our our bilingual program was dissolved. I have now been teaching fourth grade for ten years. I have always worked at a Title I school and have always had a large ELL population in my classroom.

Teaching style

My main teaching style is a student-centered approach. I feel this empowers the students. I tend to act as facilitator and allow students to discover. They may do this on their own or through collaboration with others. I believe that synergy takes place when two or more students are working together to uncover the learning. I have always been a teacher that asks those critical thinking questions. Common Core did not change the way I teach. Since I am an analytical thinker myself, I have always encouraged student to ask those "why" questions.
