Teaching context clues can be tricky when some of your students already know the unfamiliar words. These resources use nonsense words that will be unfamiliar to ALL students! Students can figure out the meaning of made-up words and then identify which clue words led them to the meaning. The last page has a passage including eight nonsense words for students to figure out!

Students will apply addition and subtraction skills to a real-life scenario to balance a checkbook. The sums and differences are up to 5-digits. Students will read descriptions of 12 deposits and withdrawals during the month of September and will have to use that information to find the ending balance of their own bank account that started with $10,000.
