About the store
I got my start in education through the New York City Teaching Fellows. I taught 5 years in the Bronx at a school for students with emotional disturbance. My students were in grades 3, 4, and 5 with varying ability levels. I am now teaching K-8 inclusion students in Colorado.
I have experience teaching literacy (from pre-primer to about a 5th grade level), math (pre-primer - 5th), science, and social studies--particularly NY geography and history. I also have taken many classes towards dance education in public schools that utilized NYC's Dance Blueprint.

Five Kingdom Riddles
A blank chart listing the animal, plant, protist, fungi, and bacteria kingdoms with places to fill in information about their food source, movements, and cell traits. I also included a chart with suggested information.

A lesson on when to estimate and when to find an exact answer. Includes a PowerPoint and a differentiated worksheet.
The PowerPoint walks through multiple problems, allowing the teacher to do an I do, we do, you do with the students. Includes a slide with key words as well.
The worksheet includes 5 problems. Students must decide whether to estimate or find an exact answer and then solve.

Writing Summaries
When teaching students how to write summaries I use a "Name It, Verb It, Big Picture" chart. This chart assists the students in writing strong topic sentences, identifying a main idea, and choosing details or events from stories to help them create a well thought out summary of a fiction or nonfiction text.
This includes a how to page and the chart for students to fill out.

Lenape, Wampum, and Money!
This math and social studies integrated lesson teaches students about Native Americans and their currency. Students compare their currency to ours today, examine pictures of things that were important to the Native Americans, and calculate what they could buy with their wampum using a chart. My students really enjoyed this activity, once they got the hang of the math, and asked to do it over and over again during choice time!

A Christmas Carol Jeopardy
A fun review game to play as students are getting antsy due to the impending break! Covers characters, events, setting, spirits, and quotes. Made for 3rd-5th grade, but can be edited to fit other grades as well.

How Does the Body Fight Disease?
A PowerPoint presentation for a class of students in grades 3-4.
Discusses the basics of HIV and AIDS.
Promotes discussion about how the body fights disease and about HIV and AIDS.

Ends with a writing activity: Students create a comic strip in which the antibody fights the pathogen.

The Four Seasons: A Dance & Literacy Unit
The four seasons is an age appropriate concept that will allow students who have already begun their dance training and have begun to be introduced to the LMA (Laban Movement Analysis) vocabulary to continue their exploration in the dance world. It is also a simple entryway for those without any training. It provides a simple premise that can allow various classes and ages to explore the meaning of each season and what it means to them in ways that allow them to connect and feel each season.

An Elementary Christmas Carol Quiz
10 questions to test student's understandings of a picture book version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."
I used Brett Helquist's 2009 version and my students loved it!
Questions are multiple choice as well as short answer and cover facts from the book, character descriptions, and analyzing what will happen next.

Experience

Teaching style
My style is whatever my students need!!! As a special education teacher I must adjust what I'm doing to what works. One hour I may be using graphic organizers and sentence frames to support ELL students. The next hour I may be hopping around on the floor, counting with kindergarten students. The next I may be engaged in a deep discussion about a controversial article with sixth graders!
My own education history
I have my bachelor's in Psychobiology, my masters in Urban Education, and a lot of credits in dance education. I am currently taking classes towards being ELL certified.
