Teach your students how to create luminaries in clay. Using a variety of hand building techniques or wheel throwing techniques have your students create pierced clay vessels designed to hold a light/candle. Student examples from AP 3-D to Basic ceramics. Rubric included for Green ware stage, and Glaze fired stage.

Students will design a textural component to repeat to use as a building block to create a Vessel. The construction method is still the same if the students were to use a coil only this method requires them to construct the form with a student designed shape or form. This can be applied to use with both hand building students and wheel throwing students. There is also a modified example section for students who need extra support. While I work with midrange(cone 6) you can modify the lesson

Teaching style

I prefer to facilitate student learning with some guidance to challenge them to go beyond their comfort zone while allowing them some creative freedom in the product but still providing technical skills needed to grow their skills.
