Help you jazz students play the right notes over any minor, dominant or major chord. Examples are in all keys and transposed for C, Bb and Eb instruments so that you can use this cart as and ensemble warmup of exercise! (Also includes C Bass Clef for trombones and base)

Absolute beginner guitar students can use this movable 2 finger hand shape to compose a chord progression. By sliding the "power chord" shape to different frets along the E string, students can create up to 12 different chords. Each chord consists of Root, 5th and Octave Root. Lacking the 3rd, power chords can substitute any major, minor or 7th chord as long as the 5th is not augmented or diminished. This assignment requires no alternate tuning, or string removal. Beginner guitar students can use this worksheet to compose chord progressions using the simple, 3 finger chord shapes. Have students copy the chord shapes (above) into the blank chord charts (below) in any order they wish. Students can then perform their original composition using the quarter note pattern below, or a rhythm of their choosing.
