Systems of Equations Project

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a project for an algebra or algebra 2 class for solving systems of linear equations. It is designed for groups of 2, one student being the "writer" and the other being the "speaker". The writer is the only one who can write things and the speaker is the only one who can ask questions for the group and who presents for the group. They must create their own systems of equations word problem, using examples as a guide (not provided) and solve it using graphing, substitution, and elimination

This is a cooperative learning activity for groups of two to create and solve their own systems of equations word problem based on the theme of going on a trip. Variables would be the cost of the trip and the number of nights or days. Teacher's initials are required after the first step to make sure the problem is reasonable (make sure the lower flight cost has a higher cost per night). Students then compare costs using a table and by writing and solving equations. Finally, they need to make a p

Compound Inequalities

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a graphic organizer to be used as notes or as a reference sheet for graphing and solving compound inequalities. Definitions are given for conjunctions (and), disjunctions (or), intersection, and union. A real world example is given of each type along with algebraic examples. Solutions to the examples are not provided.
Preview of Exponents

Exponents

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a graphic organizer to be used as notes or a reference sheet. You can show with a flow chart the standard form and exponential notation of a number, identifying the base and the exponent. Definitions are provided for exponents, positive, zero, and negative. Then there are examples of simplifying exponential expressions. The second part gives definitions and examples of exponent rules: multiplication, division, power to a power, and power of a product. Answers are not included.

Solving Equations with Fractions Decimals and Parentheses

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a graphic organizer to be used as notes for solving equations with fractions, decimals, and parentheses. The first step is to eliminate each of these and then solve the resulting linear equation.
Preview of Absolute Value

Absolute Value

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a graphic organizer to be used as notes or a reference sheet. It gives definitions, properties, and examples of absolute value, including for products, quotients, and powers. Then there are examples of graphing absolute value equations and inequalities. Finally there are rules and examples for solving and graphing absolute value equations and inequalities.
Preview of Polynomials Vocabulary

Polynomials Vocabulary

Created by
Mr Steffes
This graphic organizer provides a definition and an opportunity for up to three examples (not included) for vocabulary associated with polynomials: polynomial, term, coefficient, degree, polynomial function, and like terms. Examples can be done as a large group, in small groups, or individually.
Preview of Inequality Project

Inequality Project

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a project for an algebra or algebra 2 course for students to write their own inequality story problems in one variable and in two variables. They need to solve the first inequality and graph the second, describing three points in the solution set. A scoring rubric is included and there are two copies per sheet.

This is a worksheet to be used with my music video "Multiplication" on YouTube from my channel "mrsteffessongs" in which I sing about topics related to multiplication. It can be used as notes in class or homework or extra credit or as a review in 8th grade or High School Algebra. Common Core standards are referenced in each section and an answer key is included. The first section has an example of defining exponents, copied from the video, followed by 6 examples/exercises of evaluating numerica
Preview of Factoring Polynomials

Factoring Polynomials

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a graphic organizer to be used as notes for an algebra or algebra 2 course AFTER using the sheet "Factoring Special Polynomials". This shows the process of factoring polynomials of the form ax^2+bx+c as well as using a common factor AND another method after that.
Preview of Slope and Point-Slope Form

Slope and Point-Slope Form

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a graphic organizer to use as notes in an Algebra class. It includes the definition of slope, the slope formula, two examples to find the slope of a line given two points on a line, examples of vertical and horizontal lines, and using the slope to write an equation in point-slope form.

This is a worksheet to use with my music video "Matt's Line Ain't Right" from my YouTube channel "mrsteffessongs". This can be assigned as homework or extra credit and would be a great review for an Algebra class. Answer key is included. Students must first fill in the blank with vocabulary words from the song including the definition of slope and slope-intercept form. Then there are four sections of exercises or examples, depending whether it is used as an introduction (8th grade) or as a revi

This is a worksheet to use with my music video "I Can Solve Equations" on YouTube from my channel "mrsteffessongs". This would be a great extra credit opportunity for 8th grade or Algebra students as a review or as an introduction to solving equations for 6th grade. An answer key is included. The worksheet has a fill-in-the-blank section for definitions of vocabulary words sung in the video and then 5 sections of examples or exercises regarding solving equations based on 6th, 7th, and 8th grade
Preview of Solving Quadratic Equations

Solving Quadratic Equations

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a graphic organizer to be used as notes for an Algebra 2 course to introduce quadratic equations and to provide examples of solving quadratic equations by factoring and by using square roots. The first page is to be used for defining "quadratic equations" by describing them on the right side (such as "equation", "second degree", "non-linear graph") and providing a few examples below, perhaps including a graph as well.
Preview of Linear Inequalities

Linear Inequalities

Created by
Mr Steffes
This is a graphic organizer to be used as notes for graphing linear inequalities. The definition can be derived from questioning students' background knowledge of the two words. The examples are not given, but one should be < or > and the other should include "greater than or less than or equal to." The notes section is for reminding students where to shade and when to draw a solid line or a dashed line.
