Food Technology Design Task Students produce a lunch or dinner dish using a staple ingredient (rice, corn, quinoa, pasta, potato or wheat). Must be creative, nutritionally balanced and within budget. Students also research the farming practice of their staple ingredient with a sustainability focus. Designed for Year 8 in Australia but nothing in the document is year level or country specific.

A great, in depth assignment.

This is a great back to school resource! Students need to introduce themselves in 50 words or less (which is harder than it sounds!) through a PowerPoint presentation, which they present to the class. This task teaches precise writing skills, computer skills and speaking and listening skills, so is a fantastic first assessment. I do suggest that you make your own PowerPoint, introducing yourself in 50 words, to model to the students.

This worksheet explains topic sentences in a clear manner, and has students write their own topic sentences for provided paragraphs, their own paragraphs for provided topic sentences and finally their own topic sentence and paragraph. A great way to start introducing essay writing. This resource pairs perfectly with my Camp Reflection which uses topic sentences.
