This is my 26th year of teaching. I started with 3rd grade as a student teacher and have been "moving up" every year to 8th grade. I taught three years of 4th grade, one year of fifth, one year of sixth, three years of seventh, and fourteen years of eighth. I have also served as a technology specialist and instructional coach.

The "Genre of the Month" project is a year-long reading project. It helps students explore different genres of literature in a fun and engaging way. Each month, the students read a book of their choice from the genre of the month. Then, they either complete a project of their choice or give a book talk to their classmates. Alphabiography Book

This is a year-long writing project. Student write a short essay for each letter in the alphabet. They can write on any topic they choose. At the end, they have an alphabet book about things that are important to them. Meanwhile, students are getting practice writing in a fun and meaningful way while you are teaching them mini-lessons that can apply to their writing. Also, this is a great project for your fast finishers.

Experience

This is my 26th year of teaching. I started with 3rd grade as a student teacher and have been "moving up" every year to 8th grade. I have a bunch of degrees, plaques, and such, but the biggest honor is when I can convince my 8th graders to engage in their learning - that's my big win!

My own education history

I hold a Master's degree in education from Indiana Wesleyan University. I have Bachelor's degrees in both elementary education and history from Southern Illinois University.
