I created this engineering packet to be used with 2nd graders. This packet lays the foundation for having students go through the engineering process by designing and constructing a sail boat that will float down a river. The river I used was a taped out path on tile. The force used to get the boats moving is a simple fan. We then measure to see whose boat can float the farthest in 10 seconds. Students are then asked to revise their boat to float farther.
Use this activity to help your students practice paying for items with coin combinations. Students cut apart the snack cards and choose them from a bag. They then record their items and draw coins to pay for those items. I plan to use this as an extension in my 2nd grade Everyday Math lessons.
Use this game to practice a variety of math skills. All you need is a deck of math cards (digits, fractions, base 10 etc.). An example, teacher directions and blank worksheet are included.
How to play:
Students draw a set number of cards and then write them in the boxes at the top of the worksheet. They then answer the questions written by the teacher in the table. The possibilities are endless as to how this can be used.
Get out your very best western accent and start drawin' numbers!
Use these games to practice "hard" subtraction problems (11-20) and creating arrays.
Students will need:
colored pencils
dice
Subtraction soccer: Designed to engage students in recognizing subtraction equations.
Alligator Arrays: Designed to engage students in creation of arrays using dice.
Use the record sheet with pumpkins in the classroom. Students will measure, draw and answer questions about a real pumpkin. Students may either work in partners or independently.
