Real World Math: Road Trip Project

Students will have to choose a car to take on a road trip with their friends then complete a series of questions relating to their trip. My students have done this project for the last three years and really enjoy it each year! Modifications can be made from year to year as gas, cars, and other costs change with very little effort. Students can do with or without a calculator at the teachers discretion and/or student ability.

Morning or Afternoon Tutoring Pass Template (15/page)

Use this template to let your students attend tutoring before or after school and remember what times and or dates you offer tutoring. Changes can be made to the first cell, then copy and pasted to the remaining cells with ease. This also serves as a pass into the buildings before or after school if needed. I usually have a student staple it into their agenda so it is not lost and easily accessible.

Have you ever wanted to call a parent and just didn't know where to start and what exactly to say? Well, don't worry, this simple script will get you on the phone and to the point and off the phone quickly. This script really helps you get the parent on your side and put the responsibility and accountability back on the student. This document, like most of my others, is fully editable, so feel free to tweak it to your needs.

If you've ever had to leave a substitute teacher in charge of your room and felt like you didn't quite have everything they needed to know, this should help you solve that issue. This template also includes a minute by minute of their day on the first page, along with two subsequent pages of notes to be left about how the class was. I also thank them for their help and to let me know what their email address is so that I can have students that misbehave write apology letters to send to them as

New Student Survey (Editable)

I give each student in my class the opportunity to complete a survey to let me know a little more about them, also it gives them an opportunity to ask me a question. I'll eventually go through and answer every question that I'm asked throughout the school year. This helps build relationships and build rapport with each and every student. It also gives you some insight into their lives and interests so that you can mention some of the pop culture references and whatnot in the course of teaching.

I've compiled a comprehensive review for the first quarter of 8th grade pre-algebra. This will come in an editable word document and I've really attempted to make the most of the space from each page to try and save on printing if you are printing copies for each of your students. Please also see the answer key, that I have for this item with all the problems solved and notes provided.

Easily edit one cell to your information, then copy and paste it to the other cells. Total customization with ease! Also has room for a small disclaimer about how they will follow school and classroom rules while out on a pass from your class. Easy to complete have a stack on my desk at all times and they're extremely handy! Name, date, time, where they're going, and a quick initial and you're done! Really speeds up the whole process.

Assignment Sheet (Homework and Lesson Schedule)

Math teachers at my school all teach from shared plans and a common assignment sheet. We really try to work together to be efficient. That efficiency has been in part due to the format and planning involved in setting out a month ahead of what we are all teaching every day. This will come fully editable so that you can use it as a template for your team to use during planning meetings.

Experience

I started out in elementary school, then moved into teaching middle school math. I have also taught other electives, like learning strategies to help keep students organized and provide additional support for assignment and homework completion.I am also my school's math department chair. I have been a leader in behavior management strategies in my current school and continue to work with other teachers and administration to mentor teachers and/or staff.

Teaching style

I am fair but firm with my students. I joke and use sarcasm often, it's more fun in middle school as they start to understand it more. I try to include real world math and relate it to something they'll need later in life also. I am known on my campus as a teacher not to mess with as I follow through with my classroom expectations and consequences with all my students regardless of where on campus they may be! Many students describe me as their favorite teacher ever, some can't stand me! (mostly the rule breakers, haha)
