This is a rubric designed to help eliminate the guesswork in grading lab reports. It is broken down section by section with each section being given a specific numerical point value. It is designed primarily for Middle School Science but it can be used for Grades 7 thru 10.

- Understand how government protects the people. - Understand civic duty.

This unit includes a set of questions (and their answers) that can be used in many ways. For example: lesson openers, exit tickets, even pop quizzes. This unit includes questions about basic processes of science, such as: hypothesizing, data collecting, and graphing. There is a sample graph and even a demonstration. Questions can be printed and handed out to students to use in a way that best fits your needs.

Students create an imaginary nation and design its form of government; create its laws, and explain its customs.

Understand the roles of local and county government.

Students will understand how policies are developed to address public concerns. They will perform "Solve the Problem" activity.

-Students will understand the 3 branches of the U.S. government. They will make a model (poster) and present it to the class.

Students will understand the basic definition of government.

Determine the features of a valid (fair test) experiment. Includes worksheet: "What's Wrong with this Experiment?' and Answer Key

Create a survey question, gather class data, then organize it in a way they feel is best.

Make observations of similar objects and differentiate between strong (fact-based) and weak (opinionated) observations.

In this lesson students will understand how some living things can help each other in a habitat and they will learn that plants need the element nitrogen for best growth.

- Understand the concept of a federal system of government. Students perform "State or Federal?" activity.

- Understand what a candidate is. - Recognize that candidates must have certain qualifications. Students perform "The Most Qualified Candidate" activity.

Students will understand what a constitutional government is and complete the "Dictatorship or Constitutional Government” handout (included)

Understand natural rights, and brainstorm ways to protect them. Students perform "Its My Right" activity.

Students design and carry out their own investigation.

Review/sharpen estimation skills, and measure various items.

Discuss ideas about what scientists do and make observations of dissimilar objects.
