This is a handout I give my students when we are learning about Helen Keller. It is the American Sign Language Alphabet. My students enjoy learning the alphabet in sign. I have them spell with partners. One of their favorite activities is to spell a spelling word to their partner and have them figure out what word they are signing.
This is a form that allows me to plan each quarter for each of my students in Accelerated Reader. I keep a page for each student in a binder and use it when conferring with them about planning their goals and also to use during my parent/teacher conferences. This allows an at a glace look at where each student is and what progress they have made.
Cognitively Guided Instruction is a great way to teach math. Here are some of the math story problems I have used with my second graders. I first give the problem orally, have students retell the story and then have them work on it independently. Once the majority of the class has them solved I have students show their work and explain how they came up with the answer. It is amazing how many ways they come up with to solve the problems. This is a spreadsheet that I use to keep track of how my students are doing during AR. I write down quiz scores and if they have read with anyone. At a glance I can tell if a particular student is receiving enough of my attention and how they are doing with quizzes.
