ELA Warm-Ups / Bell ringers for the whole year! Bonus materials included!

Grammar. Punctuation. Vocab. Reading. Writing. Improve all of these skills in just five minutes per day. Teachers STRUGGLE to hit all of those learning objectives. These are not always fun to teach, so we AVOID them. Avoid no longer, my friends. Print out the weekly warm-up sheet. Students start fresh every Monday. The first five minutes of each class is dedicated to the warm-up. It sets the tone while building skills. Collect these on Fridays. Graded? Ungraded? You decide. It is a

Tupac's Poetry & The Outsiders

My students love Tupac and I bet yours do too! While not all students 'know' Tupac, most have heard of him...after all, look at how many kids are wearing Tupac or Poetic Justice T-Shirts. This project was inspired by my rowdiest class-- 18 boys and 6 girls. They wondered why I had a picture of Tupac gracing the wall with all of my authors. When I showed them the book The Rose That Grew From Concrete, they were stunned. I earned cool points that day. As we read The Outsiders, they continued

After completing a short story or novel, have your students show what they know about characters. The activity allows them to mix art and writing to capture the essence of a character. While there are a few questions geared toward basic reading comprehension, it works its way into analytical questions. I included a second template. This template (instructions are included!) is p

Additional biographical information

I was a teacher before I was a mom. Now that I am a mom who happens to be a teacher, my focus is 1000% better. If it isn't good enough for my kid, I am not about to use it in my classroom or share with others. Purposeful, relevant, and rigorous. That's what I aim for.
