About the store

Experience

I've taught core and elective English classes of varying grade levels. My specific curriculum expertise is in Freshmen and Sophomore (9-10) core ELA curriculum, AP Language & Composition, World Mythology, Etymology, Journalism, and curriculum to aid in transitioning to college/university. Overall, I have extensive experience creating culturally responsive, and social emotional learning tools for varying learning levels and needs.

Teaching style

Student centered curriculum is essential for real learning to take place; data-centered instruction leads to optimal learning for each individual student; teaching to the "whole child" is critical and responsive. Through the Gradual Release of Responsibility teaching model I work with my students to find independence through their learning.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I am a proud educator who fosters community wherever possible. I'm an advisor to clubs which focus on building community, providing service and honoring diversity and acceptance. Through my extensive body of work I highlight my passion for helping others, but I also do very much value the fostering of academic excellence. I'm proud my work has afforded me so many opportunities to educate, and get to know, so many different students, and I consider it a privilege to help them each of their individual journeys through life.

My own education history

Due to some incredible teachers I had along the way, I knew that I wanted to be a high school teacher from an early age. I passionately perused my interest in helping students express themselves and find who they truly are. So, the moment I graduated from a high school I made my way to university where I studied English Education, and obtained my educational teaching license. I am thankful that my time in college for allowing me to move on to my now career as an English teacher. Today I teach Freshmen English, AP Language & Composition, and a wide variety of electives. I have a M.S in Curriculum and Instruction, plus several hours of M.A work towards a M.A in English, Literary & Cultural Studies. I am a constant learner, with no plans to stop.

Additional biographical information

I consider it a privilege to teach our next generation the tools they need to make this world a better place.
