This is a printout that students could use to guide their writing of an informational and persuasive essay. This is easy to understand and quick to use. I just stapled it on the paper and made student check off each item as they completed it. Easy to use and effective for students.

Get your students excited about writing by letting them participate in the pumpkin journal writing project. Students will be required to get a small pumpkin that they can carry around with them. They will then reflect on the day’s activities, as if they are the pumpkin. All writings are completed in first person pumpkin. What is better than making your own choice about your work? After reading through chapter 15 in Maniac Magee students will be given a menu of choices they can complete. This activity allows students to choose their own task. Students will be given a list of 5 activities from the novel Maniac Magee. They will be required to complete one. These activities are all common core based and reflect student’s knowledge of the Language Arts standards.
