About the store

Experience

I have taught every level of math from 7th grade through AP Calculus and AP Statistics. I was in the classroom at the middle school level for two years and at the high school level for eight. I was then hired as a math specialist for a high school and work with students and teachers for all levels of secondary math!

Teaching style

Students have to be the center of learning, or they will not take ownership of their learning nor will they retain the information. I always aimed for the highest level of student engagement through activities and competitions in my classroom, and now I encourage my teachers to do the same.

National Board Certified Teacher of the Year - H.W. Byers - 2010 Teacher of the Year - Marshall County School District - 2010 STAR Teacher - 2011, 2013 Germain McConnell Award for Service to Mississippi - 2013 Praxis Award for Excellence - 2007

My own education history

Eden Prairie High School - Valedictorian class of 2003 University of Notre Dame - Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Medicine and Psychology - 2007 University of Mississippi - Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction - 2009

Additional biographical information

I grew up in Minnesota with my parents and two sisters. After graduating from Notre Dame, I went to Mississippi where I thought I would teach for two years and then go back to med school (which had been my plan all along). I fell in love with teaching and coaching, and my 2-year commitment turned into 11 and counting! Teaching is not an easy profession, and it certainly helps to share ideas! I love my current position as a math specialist/coach where I am able to make life easier for my teachers and help them reach their students! The activities I post on here have been used by myself and/or my teachers and proven to be very effective. I have been married to my best friend for almost six years. I have two amazing sons who are the loves of my life, and we have a third on the way! I teach Zumba, yoga, and BodyCombat at a local gym and love helping people with their fitness journeys as well!
