This is a worksheet for upper elementary student to practice the box method (a.k.a. "partial products") for multiplication. It covers 3x1 digit, 4x1 digit, and 2x2 digit. This is a 4th grade standard, but it can be used for 3rd grade enrichment or 5th grade review!
This product is meant to help 4th graders practice solving multi-step word problems with addition and subtraction. There is also one question that addresses rounding to estimate answers. While the directions do not instruct students to use the standard algorithm to solve these problems, the teacher can choose to have students utilize that strategy while they work.
This is a great way to check in with your students on some key 4th grade math standards! I use it for mid-term report card data to see how well they have retained information from our first units. This assessment covers the following skills: Addition and subtraction with the standard algorithmMultiplication with partial productsDivision with partial quotients Decimal number sense/place value
This product is a scaffolded way to practice the standard algorithm for addition and subtraction. Each problem is placed in a grid to help students line up the place values and properly set up the digits. There is borrowing and re-grouping in every problem. The place values of the numbers go up to the ten thousands place. This is practice for 4th grade standards, but can be used as enrichment for 3rd grade or review for older grades.

Experience
I have 10+ years of experience teaching and creating lesson materials for elementary age students. I have been on 7 curriculum design teams and love creating activities that engage students!
Teaching style
I believe that students learn by doing. I am a facilitator and resource if students get stuck, but if they are learning it then they need to do it. I am also a big believer in clear expectations and directions to help set students up for success.
My own education history
I attended the University of Connecticut and received my Bachelor's and Master's degree from them in Curriculum and Instruction. I have an additional Bachelor's Degree in History.
Additional biographical information
I am an elementary school teacher who has taught primarily 4th grade, but I also have experience with 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. I am based in Connecticut and love New England!
