This is an investigation activity that students can do independently or in groups to discover the patterns when converting fractions to repeating decimals. It provides examples of how to use long division to convert a fraction to a decimal and then has students apply the same strategy to other fractions with the same denominator. Prior to this we have class discussions about what it means to explain the accuracy and determine whether an answer makes sense in the context. When I give the quizzes back, I go through these examples to help students better understand what it means to explain the accuracy and determine whether an answer makes sense in the context.
