I am a 5th grade teacher in Virginia, and a mom of two amazing little girls. Although 5th grade is my home, I have also taught both 3rd and 4th grade. My expertise is mainly in science and math as those two subjects are my absolute favorite!
Quick pre-assessment to determine what students know and do not know about fractions! Do you need a fun word problem for a math station for Pi Day?! This word problem asks students to think and wonder about the question before solving for the answers. Students must add and subtraction fractions with unlike denominators to determine how much pie the dogs ate and how much is left over! I do this every Pi Day in my classroom (March 14th). I bring in an apple pie and cherry pie with the sections missing! We enjoy the pie together when we are done solving our word problem!
This fun activity has students multiply a fraction by a whole number. Students will determine the ingredients based off a Hungry Jack Pancake box for 30 students.
This exit ticket has 6 questions that deal with adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. It is reindeer and holiday themed! Great as a quick assessment or exit ticket!
These word problems ask students to compare and order mixed numbers and decimals in different real world situations.
