Statistics Project: The Math of Chance – Public Health & State Lotteries

This project is a research-based investigation into real-world applications of probability, specifically designed for students in Statistics courses. It challenges students to move beyond textbook problems by researching actual datasets and using statistical simulations to reach "reasonable conclusions". The project is divided into three comprehensive parts: Part 1: Medical Simulations & The Law of Large Numbers: Students research a real-world medical statistic. They then use a random number gen

Experience

Since 2016, I have taught a wide range of high school mathematics courses, and since 2021, I have taught college-level mathematics. My teaching experience includes Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Honors Algebra 2, Precalculus, AP Precalculus, Dual Credit College Algebra, Dual Credit Statistics, and Quantitative Reasoning and Finance.

Teaching style

My teaching philosophy is rooted in conceptual depth over rote memorization. Whether I am working with secondary students or in a post-secondary lecture hall, I believe students thrive when they understand the "why" behind the theorem. My resources are designed to bridge the gap between "doing math" and "understanding math," providing students with the intuition they need to tackle complex problems. Beyond the numbers, I advocate for a relationship-first classroom, knowing that students are most successful when they feel seen, valued, and supported by their instructor.
