I have been teaching at the elementary and middle level for 22 years, mostly fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. My favorite subjects to teach are math and science. During the summer I teach environmental education concepts through stream studies and nature camps done in an outdoor setting. You know celery absorbs water stained with food coloring, but does adding salt to the water have any effect on the outcome? Students explore this question with this simple experiment that focuses on experimental design and quantitative and qualitative observation. Experience
I have been teaching at the elementary and middle level for 22 years, mostly fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. My favorite subjects to teach are math and science. During the summer I teach environmental education concepts through stream studies and nature camps done in an outdoor setting. I also conduct wilderness survival and emergency preparedness classes for both children and adults.
Teaching style
I believe in creating a culture of mutual respect in my classroom. I model the behaviors I want my students to demonstrate. My discipline style is neither permissive nor autocratic. It is democratic (firm and respectful). I have a knack for creating a positive rapport with my students. I believe my passion for teaching sets a positive tone in my classroom. The lesson plans, resources, and activities I create are relevant, meaningful, and student-centered.
My own education history
Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 1992. Master of Education from West Chester University, 1999. Post- Master's graduate course work completed from University of Pennsylvania, Penn State University, St. Joseph's University, and Immaculata University.
Additional biographical information
I live in suburban Philadelphia with my wife, son, and daughter and our three dogs. In my free time I enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, biking and reading.
