This PowerPoint is a great introduction to adding mixed numbers with unlike denominators. I used it as a minilesson my 5th graders before math workshop. During the presentation, I like to walk around the room while the students solve problems on white boards. My AP was observing me during this lesson and she loved it! This EDITABLE PowerPoint reviews comparing and contrasting, author's purpose, inferring with supporting evidence, main idea and supporting details, summarizing, question-answer relationship, cause and effect, and briefly touched on sequencing. I used this as a quick review over two days (about 15 minutes each day) during our literacy time to review for the CRCT for fifth graders, but would probably work for grades 3-6. The last few slides go along with a short article I found on readworks.com
