Positive Phone Calls Home!
I make regular, positive phone calls home, DURING class time. Students gather at carpet and listen to the phone call. They never know who I am calling, until they hear me chatting with a parent or leaving a message. If the parent is available, they chat with their child for a moment, reinforcing the purpose of the call. If a message is left, the child is encouraged to listen to the message with their parent when they get home.

This is what I strive for every day. It's very challenging but when you find 'that way' to help a child make gains- it's all worth it!

That feeling when a child who has struggled suddenly has the 'light bulb' flash on.
There is nothing more rewarding or more honourable.
My own education history
I was a late starter, enrolling in post secondary when I was 35 years old. I was an Educational Assistant, working with students with special needs. My administrators encouraged me to return to school to become a teacher.
It took some time, but I mustered up the courage to return to University, earned my B.Ed. degree, and began teaching at age 39.
