This project can be completed after reading Prisoner B-3087. This is considered a UDL/Novel Choice Board where the students get to pick their own route to earning their points. This can be used as the final test or a final project for the novel.
This project is typically used at the end of a descriptive or narrative writing unit. It will practice their skills and creativity. On the first day of writing, I had out seven post-it notes. They can jot down ideas to form their story on their desk. The top of the triangle will be the Exposition. The second row will contain two post-it notes for the Rising Action A and B. This is step one of the descriptive narrative writing process. Have your students pick a place or memory. Then, have them complete this senses chart to help add description and details to their writing.
This activity is used to practice or assess parts of speech. They are given a magazine to find each of the topics. They will cut out a picture of the part of speech, and the word that they put next to the part of speech must be a correct usage. Example: Picture of a person - Noun - human Picture of a person running - Verb - running
I keep these in a binder. If a student receives a warning, yet they don't correct their behavior, they are quietly handed one of these sheets to fill out and put into the behavior binder. This is good for parent conferences or a great paper-trail for the administration. Easy to modify

This Comprehension Check can be used for any novel excerpt. I use this in a UDL unit that allows my students to pick from eight different novel excerpts. It is a quick assessment to see if they are understanding the material.
