Story Organizer Map with Story Bead

The art teacher and I collaborated to to teach lesson about Native American storytelling. Our focus was on characters, setting, and plot. The students mapped out a story with me, then created clay beads for a story string with her. Attached is the map we created to use with the kids. Notice, there is a place within each box for students to sketch or identify the bead associated with that part of the story on the story sting. Happy Teaching!

About the store

Experience

I have been an early childhood educator for over 15 years, teaching grades PreK, Kindergarten, Second, Third, and Fourth Grades, as well as college undergrad courses. I will be teaching kindergarten for the 2017-2018school year!

Teaching style

I prefer to teach in the workshop style format-- or the "three ring circus" as some call it! Many times, I will present a whole group lesson based upon grade level standards, then send students to their work space to work on indepedent work at their own level while I teach guided groups in reading, writing, word study, and math. Typically, science and social studies are whole group activities, as we are using discovery learning and conducting investigations in those content areas.

Awards & shining teacher moments

My shining moment is every single day that I walk into my classroom, and I love being there. My students are excited to come to school and be on the learning journey with me. I am also thrilled to have my daughter at the same school where I teach. :) I recently earned the Master Teacher designation for my school district within the state of Ohio.

Additional biographical information

I am the mom to a very busy eleven-year-old girl who loves learning and teaching as much as her mom does! Our family are die-hard fans of The Ohio State University-- we are all nuts about the Buckeyes. :)
