Teaching students how to summarize using the 5 finger rule was a significant way for them to remember the different parts of a summary! My students remember how to summarize and as they summarize I see them use their fingers to remember what they need. The first two pages are the "cheat sheet" to know the parts. This is a packet with step by step directions for students to complete a demonstration speech or "how to" speech to practice sequence. The packet includes: a title page, speech ideas, a place to write due dates, a list of tasks to complete at home and school, a supplies needed spot, a steps to complete task graphic organizer, a page to write the speech on, and a rubric for grading.

This is meant to be a quick check in to see what students are remembering and thinking after watching the CNN 10 daily news for kids. It allows students to share their thoughts in a way that is safe and still allows them to have their opinions. This is a great way to not have them do too much work about the news, but to still be able to look back on it. I keep these and have them made into a little book for each student to be able to look back on what they remember from the year.

This is used to help students come up with what to put in each paragraph before working on actually writing the paragraphs. This was done after talking about strong leads, details, showing not telling, using senses to write, and closing paragraphs.

This is to be done with the book "What if You Had Animal Teeth". Students will complete this packet to be prepared to create a character with big goofy teeth like the children in the book. They will create the teeth for their favorite animal in the book.

This is a lesson planner for the 2021/2022 year. You can edit all slides, dates, subjects, and the content areas under the subjects. I have used and loved this format of lesson planning for several years. This lesson planner is easily editable on google slides and shared with teammates. One of the best features is that by using the google slides you can link the activities right into the slides.

This is a tool used for students to track what they are reading. At the end of each chapter they write what happened in the chapter and then they hand it in at the end of the book. I use it as a check-in too to see what they are reading throughout the book. Once printed out back to back the page can be folded in half and kept right in the book they are reading.

This is a weekly reading log for students to complete at home, and have parents sign. This has a variety of questions that they answer, they choose which question they want to answer after each time that they read.

For St. Patrick's Day tomorrow have your students state why they are lucky to have the students in their class. Each student writes their name at the top of the paper, and then they scoot around to other student's desks when the music pauses to write something nice about the other students.
