Students will analyze a primary source regarding Columbus and his thoughts on the natives. Students will understand the primary source by analyzing the document with the SOAPSTONE strategy/handout.
Questions compare modern day politicians quotes on the migration situation of Syrian refugees. Students also OPTIC a political cartoon and translate the quote found on the Statue of Liberty into a more modern day text. Finally students write a paper using the documents to support there position.
For each question students miss they will put the question number, the reason they missed it and complete the correction by writing out the correct answer. This is a great reteach tool that typically takes one forty-five minute class period or can be used when a substitute is needed.
