Pattern Finders

Students will research comparable gas and hybrid cars and current gas prices and then write a linear system of equations. They will state their slope and y-intercept and what they mean in context. Students will solve the systems algebraically and find the point where the two cars are equal in price. Students will write paragraph arguing which car they would purchase They will also recalculate their equations and intersection point with the assumption that the gas prices increase by $1 per gallon

Students have to explain and draw a picture using Algebra Tiles to show that squaring a binomial does not equal the sum of the squares of its terms.
