I use this project in my classes to introduce the unit on function transformations in my algebra 2 classes. I've also used it as a review in my precalculus class. They are asked to study the most popular parent functions in several ways then use Desmos to explore what happens when they adjust the equations in various ways. This is a fairly open-ended exploration, and my students typically do a great job with that. I've included a basic rubric for grading purposes. I have found that front-loadin
This is one page (front and back) of all the main notes for an exponentials and logarithms unit. I am using it in my precalculus class for review, but it could be used in any class this topic appears. The notes include the various formulas, graphs, what it means to be inverses, properties of logarithms, transformations, and solving exponential and logarithmic equations.
This is a hands-on activity that leads students through constricting and deriving the formulas for circles and ellipses. It is intended to help students develop an intuitive understanding of the equations related to circles and ellipses. It should take roughly 1 class period.
