This activity includes 4 problems worked out by substitution. Each problem has an error in it (problem 2 actually has two errors). I used mistakes I saw my students commonly making. The activity asks students to find the error, explain the error, then rework the problem correctly. I created this discovery-based geogebra activity for my standard 8th grade math class to work through the question of how changing heights and radii affects the volumes of different solids. The activity involves students changing different dimensions of solids and observing then explaining the affects the changes had. It relies on students already knowing the volume formulas and perhaps having a general understanding of where those formulas came from. This resource includes the powerpoint I used
I used this during the transformations unit in my standard 8th grade math class. I had students fill out rows as closures for class periods. It helped them to have a running list of all pertinent vocabulary with diagrams and/or examples.
This could also be used as a review activity at the end of the unit before a test.
