This practice sheet covers: ~using algebraic equations to solve for missing angle measures in triangles ~Determining if triangles are congruent, similar, or neither ~Solving for missing measurements in similar triangles. It could be used as in class practice, homework, or a quiz.
This activity includes 4 problems worked out by substitution. Each problem has an error in it (problem 2 actually has two errors). I used mistakes I saw my students commonly making. The activity asks students to find the error, explain the error, then rework the problem correctly. This is a really good group work assignment as it will get students talking about common errors they make. Each group could be assigned their own problem to correct, rework, and then present. It could also be used as a
This product includes two different activities for using two-way tables to analyze a set of data and calculate relative frequencies. This is a good practice or summative assignment for this section. Students must already know how to calculate relative frequencies. The first two-way table activity involves surveying the class about their eye color and whether or not they wear glasses/contacts. The class can then turn the survey data into a two-way table and analyze it. In my class we did this on
I use this project in my classes to introduce the unit on function transformations in my algebra 2 classes. I've also used it as a review in my precalculus class. They are asked to study the most popular parent functions in several ways then use Desmos to explore what happens when they adjust the equations in various ways. This is a fairly open-ended exploration, and my students typically do a great job with that. I've included a basic rubric for grading purposes. I have found that front-loadin
This is one page (front and back) of all the main notes for an exponentials and logarithms unit. I am using it in my precalculus class for review, but it could be used in any class this topic appears. The notes include the various formulas, graphs, what it means to be inverses, properties of logarithms, transformations, and solving exponential and logarithmic equations.
This is a list of dozens of wonderful picture books, organized by topic, to help you teach and review PK-early elementary math topics. I made it for Kindergarten, but the topics are pretty open ended and relevant for more ages than that. Enjoy!
This is a practice activity for using the quadratic formula to find complex roots. Students will solve problems and color in corresponding images on a bingo card according to their answers. The images and bingo cards come from crayola.com (link provided).
In this lab students will be determining the formula for the volume of a sphere in relation to the volume of a cylinder using play dough. I created it for my standard and honors 8th grade math classes to give them a sense of where the sphere's volume formula comes from. This works best in more advanced classes, but is accessible to any student with the right groupings and support. My students loved that they got to play with play dough for this one. It really got them engaged and having good co
I use this rubric to teach my students productive collaboration skills. I have used it with 8th-12th graders. This is how I do my classwork grades. Each group will receive a group grade for this, no individual grades. Typically, I begin the year with a lot of conversation around group work. We practice good group strategies together. I have them work through activities while I write feedback for each group on these rubrics. The first couple don't count as a grade. Students take this really seri
This mini Project covers the concepts of scatterplots and linear regression lines using data analysis in Excel. The project introduces the concepts of scatterplots and lines of best fit, has students work through a basic analysis of a data set using Excel, then has students complete a more complex analysis of a baseball data set. I created this for my standard 8th grade math class to cover CCSSM.8.SP.1, CCSSM.8.SP.3, MP.4, and MP.5 in an engaging and practical way. I had students working in pair
I created this discovery-based geogebra activity for my standard 8th grade math class to work through the question of how changing heights and radii affects the volumes of different solids. The activity involves students changing different dimensions of solids and observing then explaining the affects the changes had. It relies on students already knowing the volume formulas and perhaps having a general understanding of where those formulas came from. This resource includes the powerpoint I used
I used this during the transformations unit in my standard 8th grade math class. I had students fill out rows as closures for class periods. It helped them to have a running list of all pertinent vocabulary with diagrams and/or examples.
This could also be used as a review activity at the end of the unit before a test.
This is a hands-on activity that leads students through constricting and deriving the formulas for circles and ellipses. It is intended to help students develop an intuitive understanding of the equations related to circles and ellipses. It should take roughly 1 class period. Supplies Needed: Bronze Fasteners String Rulers Paper Scissors
This is a simple parent intake form that could be used at an open house or curriculum night to get some information on your new students and their parents.
This activity asks students to create multiple choice answer options for open response questions. I used it in my class with gridded response questions from standardized tests. The aim of this activity is to get students thinking about how multiple choice answers are created from common mistakes. It is intended to make them think twice before assuming their answer is correct just because it is an option. Also, students found that in doing this activity they couldn't get the "right" way of doing
I had my students do this review project in groups at the end of the year. It asks them to create a vocabulary sheet, quiz, and study resource for a topic we covered. Each group had to present their resources as well. I have included the directions I used for my 8th grade math class, along with the list of topics according the the 8th grade common core standards and review resource ideas; however, this resource is editable and could be used in any math class. I have also included the detailed ru
These are the general directions I use for an I-Spy review game in my classroom. It can be used in any subject area. It will get students up and moving and working together.
