Around-the-Room's increase student engagement! Get your students up and walking around, working collaboratively, and self-checking for accuracy. I usually use this activity to primarily practice writing systems of 3-variable equations and have them use technology to solve. You could have them solve their systems by hand (elimination, substitution, Gaussian), but keep in mind the time frame will be longer!
Speed dating is a highly interactive strategy that can liven up any classroom! During this activity, you'll see students coaching each other to become more confident in quadratic functions. Cards can also be used as task cards!
When learning volume, students struggle most with finding "B",the area of the Base--it's a problem within a problem!
This activity has five 3-D figure that students must find the volume for. The activity leads them to their answers by first asking for:
1.) name of the figure
2.) volume formula for that figure
3.) shape of the base
4.) Area of the base (B)
THEN, they use that information to find the total volume. I see lots of lightbulbs go off during this step-by-step process.
