Students use graph paper to draw different size hearts Students practice the concept of area (the space inside a shape-- and how many unit squares fit inside a shape) Students use addition skills to add different areas together. Students must use problem solving skills to design heart shapes.
This activity is great for independent work or partner/group work to assess understanding of AREA as well as animal adaptations. The integration of both math and science concepts is the focus of this lesson and students use what they know about each concept to complete the small project. Teachers may need to do a little bit of prep before the activity depending on which option you chose.
