Butterfly Circus Questions

These are questions that go along with the movie "The Butterfly Circus". It is a beautiful story reminding us to look past someone's exterior and be able to see their heart. It's what we often do as teachers every day with our students!!!!!!! If you haven't seen the movie, check it out on youtube.

This was used between me and another teacher. We were frustrated with sending students out into the hall unsupervised, or sending them down to the office wondering if they actually made it or the Vice Principal had time to see them. We wanted something a little more immediate and definite. If a student needed to be sent out, they went to my "partner teacher's classroom". It just happened they were the classroom next to mine. Student was sent to the partner teacher with the form. Each of us

Theme and Variations Assignment I use this assignment with my 6th Grade Band when I'm teaching the concept of theme and variations. It's quick, easy to follow, easy to understand, and works great as an emergency substitute assignment!

Student missing a concert? Need an alternative assignment for a make-up grade? We all know there is really no way to make up for a missed performance, but this assignment provides an easy alternative activity. The student is asked to attend another school concert in your district or your city. You can determine how long they have to complete the assignment. It's easy to use, easy to grade, and gets students actively thinking about another school's concert performance. Easily editable to matc

About the store

Experience

I have been teaching since 1993 and have mostly taught Band, but some Choir, Guitar, Percussion Ensemble, and General Music along the way. I have also been on the worship team either as leader or member at whatever church I have attended.

Teaching style

I have always felt extremely fortunate to teach the same students from middle school through high school and share in something that they love! When you are with students for 8 years, you can't help but get to know them and have a deep relationship with not only the student, but with the family as well. My students know that I love them dearly but I also hold them to a high standard not only musically, but morally as well. We make mistakes together but at the end of the day, hopefully we have lived corem Deo!!!!!

Awards & shining teacher moments

1997 Teacher Leadership Technology Grant My HS Concert and Jazz Bands have always received a superior or excellent rating at festivals and contests. One of the biggest highlights of my career was being able to work with composer Christopher Tin on a piece for my combined ensembles.

My own education history

1993: Bachelor of Music from Western Washington University; 1998: Master of Music from Central Washington University; 2014: Residency Principals Certificate from Western Washington University

Additional biographical information

I have spent my entire career teaching in Washington State. I spent 24 years in the public schools and since 2017 have taught in a small private Christian School - and honestly since making the switch, I have never been happier or more satisfied with my career!!!
