A lovely way to introduce the class to numicon. If you have a higher ability group that already recognizes the numbers 1-6, why not try them with the 5-10 bingo game? The match up picture cards are a great extra resource for spacial awareness and getting familiar with the numicon colors are shapes.

Great way to engage kids in number formation by either printing out the cards or even placing the clip arts in your own work. The children start at the dot and 'drive' a toy car around the numbers to practice formation. Great for Math centres. You can also give them tracing paper to form the numbers after practicing with a toy car.

Fun game / presentation to introduce the language of probability. It uses the terms; Impossible, Very unlikely, Unlikely, Even chance, Likely, Very likely and Certain. Picture puzzles are an excellent way to introduce the part – part – whole aspect of Singapore Maths, missing digits e.e. 145 + __ = 193, pre-algebra thinking and can be used to develop logical thinking with halving and subtraction. The numbers were chosen to be used in K3 4 i.e. halving 3 digit numbers (e.g. 176) and borrowing when subtracting 3 digit – 2 digit (e.g. 263 – 87). However, if they not aren’t used to these types of visual problems, they can be used much later to introduce algebra.

My class love these10 sets of fact family triangles (tables 2 – 10). I use them for mental maths activities and for lower ability groups when completing written activities. There are 12 fact family worksheets (tables 2 – 12) to use as assessment, activities or in maths centres (once laminated).

Here is my strategy for teaching 100 number bonds. It is similar to the Big Maths clic session jigsaw addition. There are 4 PowerPoints, getting harder each time. The children love it and find it an easy strategy to follow. I have included my differentiated worksheet too.

Introduce Algebra at Elementary / Middle school with these 22 ppts. The 22 presentations begin with simple picture representations and explore pupil’s reasoning skills through a variety of sized and shaped grids, representations of scales as equal and scales as amounts to reasonably compare. Making the jump from learning table facts and dividing with remainders can be difficult for some children. I developed these coloring sheets to support those finding it difficult. I love that the class are enjoying themselves and not realizing that they are learning. Those who are struggling always ask for help too as they see no shame it misunderstanding a coloring in task.
