This focus of this unit is to equip students with the necessary skills and strategies to write and perform a written product. All literacy strands (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) are included in this unit, beginning with taking note of the necessary components involved in speaking and ending with students independently writing a speech or spoken word, which they will perform. While this unit can be used with any ninth or tenth grader, it has been developed with intentional scaffolds
This is a unit plan. Students will trace how society constructs views about people, specifically women and African-Americans. Students will close read informational texts and then end with the short story Desiree's Baby.
