I been teaching for 16 years. For 15 years, I taught everything you can teach to 7th and 8th graders from double blocked math for low performers to Algebra 1 for high school credit. Students place their answers or vocabulary words at random in the spaces and you call out the answers. For the vocabulary game, I make a PowerPoint with the definitions so the students can see and read the definitions while playing. And it's easy to change to order of the slides if you want to play a seco

If you teach in Texas, you know about the STAAR test! I have been using these types of mini quizzes to help my students become more familiar with the STAAR reference materials they can use during the test. For some, the use of the "STAAR chart", that's what we call it, can mean the difference between passing and failing. I included a sampling of how I use the quizzes. They are half sheets and are meant to help students know where things are located on the chart, what everything means, and to

If you need a form to help with textbook checkout, return, assessment of fines, parental signatures, and collection of fines, here's one for you! I created this form so that students and parents could have a chance to document damage that had already happened, know how I assess fines at the end of the year, and how much the math book cost in case it was lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair. Hope you like it as well!

Here is a worksheet I created to help students develop the relationship between unit fractions and whole numbers. I left it in word so you will be able to edit the worksheet as needed. My students draw a diagram, use repeated addition, and some times, are unable to tell me how they find the answer, which is why I added the question "how did you figure out the number?. Being able to communicate mathematical ideas is a big deal, so I want them to have as much experience as possible. I will use

Teaching style

I am pretty laid back for a math teacher. Or at least that's what I'm told. I like making math fun. I love when the students are so engaged that they say things like "It's time to go already?" and "I never really liked math til now." Hands on, real life math is how and what I like to teach.

My own education history

East Central University, BS in Education, 1992 Completed Master's level classes at The University of Texas at Arlington 12 classes in Mathematics Education for Curriculum and Instruction.
